New Business Advisor joins the Hinkley Supply Chain Team

A new business advisor has joined the Hinkley Supply Chain Team to provide support for South West businesses registered on the supply chain portal, helping them to win contracts at Hinkley Point C.

Tom Scott has been appointed as Hinkley Supply Chain Business Advisor, increasing the Hinkley Supply Chain Team, which is managed by Somerset Chamber of Commerce, to five people. He has a solid background in supply chain management, with significant experience in supply planning and capacity projects for large capital investments, as well as procurement and service management.

Sam Evans, Head of Engagement for the Hinkley Supply Chain Team, said, “Tom brings experience of procurement processes and is used to working in a systemised environment. His experience of driving performance from within an industry will be beneficial to companies in the region as they scale up and prepare to bid for contracts at Hinkley Point C. In addition, his strong information gathering and analysing skills will be valuable as we, along with our delivery partners SWMAS and Business West, continue to expand the Hinkley Supply Chain Programme across the South West and South Wales.”

Tom commented, “With a significant number of Hinkley Point C contract opportunities available to local organisations, I’m looking forward to supporting businesses across the region to help them win contracts. This will bring much economic benefit, not just to the companies that win the contracts but also to the wider local supply chain and region as a whole.”

Tom will be based at the Somerset Energy Innovation Centre (SEIC) in Bridgwater, although much of his time will be spent visiting and supporting businesses that have been identified as having matching capability for contracts relating to Hinkley Point C.

Over 4,000 Somerset and South West businesses have registered on the Hinkley supply chain portal to date, with contracts worth around £450million already awarded to South West suppliers. In total, the Hinkley Supply Chain Team estimates that over £700million will be awarded to South West suppliers during the construction period.

Somerset Chamber of Commerce manages the Hinkley supply chain portal for the South West and is the first point of contact for Somerset and South West businesses wishing to engage in the construction of the nuclear new build project.
