SOMERSET’S transport infrastructure will come under the spotlight at Somerset Chamber of Commerce’s first business breakfast of 2020.
Nick Aldworth Regional Delivery Director for Highways England (South West) will be joined by Somerset County Council cabinet members Cllr David Hall, who holds the economic development, planning and community infrastructure portfolio and Cllr John Woodman, who has responsibility for highways and transport.
The trio of guest speakers will cover developments in the region, including the latest on proposed upgrades of the A358 and A303, ongoing works around Taunton’s M5 junction and highways schemes in Bridgwater.
The Transport Infrastructure Update event will take place at Taunton Racecourse’s Conference Centre, from 8am to 10am on Friday, January 31.

Stephen Henagulph, Chief Executive of Somerset Chamber, said: “The business breakfast is both enjoyable and informative, with opportunities to network and to find out about the latest policies and priorities from both the county council and Highways England.
“Only recently, a survey carried out by the national British Chambers of Commerce found that UK businesses were even less satisfied with UK infrastructure than they were a year ago.
“Of the 1,200 business leaders surveyed, only a third (35%) felt the UK road network was meeting their needs when reaching customers, suppliers, and employees, while 60 per cent had experienced delays resulting in increased costs and lost business.

“Here in Somerset it’s good to see so many positive transport projects happening – Junction 25 on the M5, the new Link Road for the Gravity Project off Junction 23 of the M5, the Colley Lane development which is part of the £18.4m Bridgwater project.
“All these point to investment for the longer term in our county’s infrastructure which will, ultimately, boost economic growth.”
