NEW businesses are being offered access to a free series of workshops designed to help them on the road to success.
Organised by Somerset Chamber of Commerce and open to all chamber members who have been in business for under three years, the workshops will focus on business planning, accounting, marketing and sales.
The first workshop, Business Planning, takes place at the Somerset Chamber of Commerce in Taunton on Tuesday, April 2, and is being delivered in partnership with Taunton company Access Performance Solutions.
Research has shown that just a quarter of small and medium new businesses undertake a formal business planning process. The workshop is aimed at those looking to ensure their start-up develops from a good idea into a good business.
The team at Access Performance Solutions will aim to help attendees understand how planning can help them achieve better business success, with tips on how to use planning effectively to develop, measure and manage performance.
Andy Palmer, director of Access Performance Solutions, said: “Planning is an essential element of success and yet very few businesses adopt the basic principles of setting objectives and measuring how they are performing against them to help make them make more informed business decisions.
“Planning is a dynamic, on-going process, so this workshop will not be an exercise in how to write a plan but an exercise in how to use planning most effectively in their day to day management of the business.”
The Business Planning workshop takes place from 9am to 11am and will be followed by an Understanding Accounts workshop in June, an Introduction to Marketing in September and Building A Sales Pipeline in November.
Alistair Tudor, Head of Chamber Services at Somerset Chamber of Commerce said: “We know how hard it can be for new businesses to establish themselves and turn their ideas into reality, that’s why we’re offering all members who have been operating for less than three years a space on these free workshops which are worth over £300.”
