SMEs can help their young staff develop essential workplace skills and attributes by signposting them to DofE Direct; a new way for 18-23 year olds to achieve a Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award independently, without the need to belong to a local group.
The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE) is widely recognised as enabling young people to build and evidence a range of so-called soft skills such as communication, resilience, team working and commitment through setting a series of personal challenges.
Businesses such as British Gas and Heathrow have been running the DofE for their staff as part of their apprenticeship programmes for years because of its effect on attitude, competence and productivity. In addition, over 100 other leading employers endorsed the DofE as a great way for young people to upskill themselves for work at www.DofESkills.org.
To help your young employees develop vital skills signpost them to www.DofEDirect.org.
