Chamber CEO takes a closer look at Bridgwater's new access road

Somerset’s Chamber of Commerce’s Chief Executive Stephen Henagulph was invited to take a closer look at the latest piece in Bridgwater’s transport puzzle – the new Colley Lane Southern Access Road.

The scheme is an example of Somerset County Council’s ongoing commitment to investing in and successfully delivering major infrastructure projects. Good infrastructure is vital for business and residents alike.

Colley Lane represents £18.4m of investment in the town’s infrastructure and is being delivered on time and in budget.

When complete it will provide a link between Marsh Lane and Parrett Way, easing congestion on Taunton Road and Broadway, as well as opening up brownfield development land.

Mr Henagulph, pictured second from the left, joined the County Council’s Cabinet Member for Highways, Cllr John Woodman and Council Officers Paula Hewitt and Alyn Jones to walk the bridge to see how work is moving on apace.

Mr Henagulph said: “I was delighted to be given the opportunity to take a closer look at the development of the much-anticipated Colley Lane Southern Access Road.

“Chamber members consistently tell us that good roads and physical infrastructure are crucial for good business and prosperous communities so this new access road can only help Bridgwater by easing congestion and opening up new development sites for businesses.”

Works are being funded by EDF S106 contributions, housing developer S106 contributions, the DfT Productivity Investment Fund and the Somerset County Council capital programme.
