BCC working to get practical Brexit

Dr. Adam Marshall, Director General of the British Chambers of Commerce, recently wrote to the Government regarding the future relationship with the European Union.  Dr Marshall and other signatories demanded clarity from the government allowing business in the UK to plan for the likely outcome of negotiations.

Theresa May’s response highlights the importance of business in the policy making process and highlights the governments meetings with business around VAT and excise.

The main points from the Prime Ministers response include:

• The proposal that the EU is a UK-EU free trade area for goods avoiding the need for regulatory checks at the UK-EU border.
• This free trade area will be underpinned by a common rulebook for goods.
• The desire for a new framework agreement to allow UK and EU businesses to provide services to each other.
• The expectation that the negotiation team will work towards an agreement later this year.
