Battens Solicitors is pleased to announce the appointment of Rachel Saltonstall to its Commercial property team, joining as a Senior Associate based in Battens’ Castle Cary office.
Having studied law first at the University of Warwick (including a stint studying the French legal system at a university in Bordeaux) and then the College of Law in Chester, Rachel worked as a paralegal for Magic Circle firm Slaughter and May before completing a training contract with DJ Freeman, a medium City firm just off Chancery Lane.
On qualification Rachel moved to the Canary Wharf office of international law firm, Clifford Chance, before moving to the South West in 2004 where she first joined Battens Solicitors Limited and later became an Associate.
After a short break from practising as a solicitor, during which time she taught Property Law to CILEX students, Rachel took up the position of Principal Property Lawyer at South Somerset District Council.
Some seven years on and Rachel is returning to Battens as a Senior Associate: “I thoroughly enjoyed my time in-house in local authority. I worked with and for some friendly, enthusiastic and dedicated people and I feel the experience helped me to develop as a solicitor. I am now really excited to be returning to private practice with Battens and the challenges and opportunities that will bring.”
Rachel has acted for a diverse range of clients across the private, commercial, agricultural, charitable and public sectors, and so has a wide range of commercial property experience encompassing freehold and leasehold sales and acquisitions, land adoptions, all aspects of non-contentious Landlord and Tenant work, development work (including section 106 agreements), telecommunications leases and renewable energy projects.
Jill Cochrane, Director at Battens Solicitors, said: “Rachel’s range of legal property expertise makes her a great asset to our team here at Battens. We are very much looking forward to working with Rachel again.”
