Training workshop - the right leadership for a successful safety culture

The biggest challenge for any business leader is to successfully deliver both customer value and safety excellence. Many safety initiatives focus simply on tools and systems, but these need to be used on a foundation of the right leadership.

This workshop is aimed at anyone who wants to make an impact on safety within their organisations. It will particularly benefit leaders and safety professionals within higher hazard, people-centric operations.

Rachael Cowin and Sean Hagger, of Legitimate Leadership, will help attendees to create a safety culture where everyone is committed to making their contribution to safety, every time.
They will cover:

  • How to move from safety compliance to safety commitment, where everyone does the right thing even when nobody is watching
  • How to improve safety performance through changes in leadership practice throughout the organisation
  • The difference between empowerment and control and how to get the balance right within a safety context
  • How to foster a culture of fairness through appropriate accountability

Legitimate Leadership has successfully increased legitimacy, trust, contribution and accountability in over 250 diverse client organisations across the world.

Its partners and associates work with clients globally in the UK, USA, Germany, South Africa, Namibia and India. Its UK team has or is currently working with DAC Beachcroft, Salary Finance UK, Babcock, the NHS, Harrison Packaging, Johnson Matthey Catalysts, TK Access.

Rachael Cowin and Sean Hagger are principal consultants for Legitimate Leadership Int Ltd, working with organisations to help them transform their culture with a focus on leadership excellence.

Rachael graduated in engineering from the University of Cambridge, then spent 20 years in the chemical industry with Johnson Matthey. She specialised in large scale engineering project management and led teams to deliver change in high-volume, high-pressure manufacturing environments.

Sean graduated in chemistry from the University of Surrey in the UK and worked as an analytical chemist for Pfizer and GlaxoSmithKline. He then moved to Johnson Matthey’s Clean Air division before taking up a senior leadership position in the UK Auto-Catalyst manufacturing facility in Royston in 2018, becoming Site General Manager two years later.
